The LIO archive is made up of many interrelated sections, each of which responds to different needs and purposes:. The project includes the creation of a general catalogue of all the manuscripts, with brief but comprehensive descriptions of each song book indexed, beginning with the Censimento dei manoscritti di rime di Dante by D.

De Robertis, duly integrated with manuscripts containing lyric texts by authors other than Dante, from the 13th and 14th centuries.

  • Lanfranco Caretti: Avviamento allo Studio della Letteratura Italiana (Book Review) - ProQuest.

The FEF has purchased microfilms of the main manuscripts. Currently , the archive contains over 80 descriptions in some cases partial of manuscripts - including census and index of contents. In the LIO database each song book described is annotated with a detailed analysis of the contents according to a model of data collection that includes the transcription of the attribution as indicated in the rubric, of the first and last lines, the identification of each text linked to the archive pertaining to Authors and Texts and other information deemed relevant.

The editorial board of LIO has undertaken a complete review and recording of the editions and of the philological bibliography of texts and manuscripts, in order to establish the frame of reference of the state of the research, to which the Repertory belongs. The bibliography is constantly updated. A database has been set up that records all the texts attributed by the scholarship to each author, as well as those texts that are attributed in the manuscript tradition. The Repertory will combine this archive with those concerning the indexing of the manuscripts b and with the bibliography c.

Related projects. The TLIon project, coordinated by Claudio Ciociola and based at the Scuola Normale di Pisa, aims to create descriptive files of the textual tradition of each author in Italian literature and to place that information in an online database. The framework of the project is perfectly complementary to LIO which is an analytical repertory, while the former is a concise overview , and from the beginning there has been close and mutually beneficial collaboration between the two projects.

The TraLiRO project, financed by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research within the framework of the research programme "Future in research" FIRB , aims to create an online repertory dedicated to the manuscript tradition of medieval lyric texts in several romance language areas. The project spans three years March - March , and is divided into four units: in particular, the unit based in Siena directed by the Coordinator of the project, Alessio Decaria will be responsible for the Italian textual tradition and will conduct its examination in close connection with LIO, given the complementary nature of the two projects.

History of the project. The project was conceived as the ideal extension of research on song books of the 13th century. After a first phase dedicated to the 13th century tradition, we intend to continue the analysis of manuscripts from the Stilnovo period to Dante, with the prospective of reaching the completion of medieval Italian lyric tradition up to Petrarch. Between and , the activities related to LIO were developed further in the frame of a project funded by the Ministry of Education FIRB , intitled Archivio dei manoscritti medievali nella tradizione culturale europea.

These advances included improvements to the version of the database which will be available for online consultation starting in The project "Italian Lyric Poetry. Repertorio della tradizione poetica italiana dai Siciliani a Petrarca" is putting into place a digital archive on the textual tradition of old Italian lyric poetry, which contains a repertory of authors and texts, with analytical and critical information on the manuscript witnesses and on the corresponding scholarship.

This tradition, which played a central role in the development of European poetry, still lacks a reliable and up-to-date repertory, unlike the contemporaneous romance tradition. The LIO database will provide a set of information for each author and for each manuscript. The repertory will indicate all the texts attributed by scholarship to the author, as well as those attributed to him in the manuscript tradition. For each manuscript, the database will show all the compositions it contains, according to the form they present in that particular witness.

In its definitive form the Repertory will allow the simultaneous consultation of this twofold archive in order to provide a complete overview of the tradition. The database is available for online consultation from early , and contains the first phase of Italian lyric poetry, up to the death of Cino da Pistoia LIO is a project designed to be open to the scholarly community. We encourage reporting concerning errors as well as supplementary information to be added to the data in the LIO repertory, and welcome offers to contribute to the work of describing manuscripts.
